Glenhope to Murchison
Established 1952
Supported by

Sunday September 27, 2009.
This 42km fun ride was first riden by members of the
Nelson Cycling Club in 1952 and has become an
annual event catering for racers and recreational cyclists.
Starting approximately 3 kilometres on the Murchison side of
the Hope Saddle at the site of the original
Glenhope Railway Station this ride provides some great
cycling with flats, hills, descents and long straights.
Over the years many competitive riders have used it to 'kick-start' their
summer season whilst for hundreds of others it has provided an
opportunity for families to participate together. Please note that
any rider under the age of 14 must be accompanied (on a cycle) by
an adult. We are using a State Highway so safety is our priority.
Whilst it is held at the beginning of 'Summer' the heavens have
been known to open and on some occasions cyclists have
experienced falling snow. We advise, regardless of what the weather
is doing where you are, come prepared for all seasons.
At the conclusion of the ride many partake in a picnic lunch, or
make the most of the opportunity to indulge and enjoy the
variety of food available in Murchison before joining together
for the prizegiving. Whilst we don't offer large prizes we endeavour
to send a large number of riders home with a small memento of
the event and for some there are trophies at stake.
Owen River to Murchison - 19km
Start at the Owen River Hotel for a shorter option.
This is ideal for younger riders. Those 13 or under must be accompanied by an adult.
